Finally

About a year ago I took a baby sweater class at the Tangled Web to knit a sweater for my Fiendling. Not knowing the sex, I chose what I considered a nice, neutral color that wasn't too, well... babyish. I was sick of the pale yellows and greens that so often accompany new babies.

When she saw the sweater in its nearly complete form, my mother immediately made me feel bad by expressing her disdain for the color. "Couldn't you have chosen something more cheerful," she asked. Huh. Well it was too late, and I hadn't and the sweater was almost done. So I finished it. Sort of. I never got around to actually weaving in any of the ends until recently and I never sewed on any buttons.

Now it's fall and it's cool and I'm knitting the same sweater in a different color for my brother-in-law's baby-to-be. It's going pretty quickly and I'm making far fewer mistakes than I made the first time I attempted the pattern and I'm pretty pleased with myself so far. So pleased that I decided enough was enough and it was time to sew the buttons on my Fiendling's sweater. He's worn it the past two days and I love it, even though it's not a cheerful color. '

Another finished project

Believe it or not, I've somehow managed to finish a hat for my little Fiendling. Unfortunately, he hates it. Here's a picture of him desperately trying to remove it from his head.

get well soon

Coach, I hope your surgery goes well. Good luck and get well.

27 July 2006

Well, I guess I'll be out a little bit longer than I thought

I have to have surgery - old lady I have gallstones - surgery. I'll be out of commission for a little while - but I hope to be up and adam by August 14th.

too hot to knit

Summer is a tough time to get into knitting for me. We're away a lot and have visitors a lot, especially since baby Doodle's arrival. And now it's 99 degrees and the thought of knitting just isn't appealing to me. Since I haven't been in a few weeks I don't know if others feel the same way, but I hope to reconnect soon.

Rainy Monday

It was a dark and stormy evening when Boyfiend, the Fiendling and I set out for Crossroads. But soon the clouds made way for some sun and with the sun came this:

Ooh. Pretty. The Fiendling enjoyed seeing his very first rainbow.
Since noone was there to distract me with conversation I made some progress.

The big bad baby blanket is practically finished. All I need to do is weave in the ends. It's about time.

The Fiendling is relieved. He was so bored of watching me knit that thing. He can't wait for a new project.

My how the time flies...

We've had our fourth meeting! I still haven't loaded and pictures - I'm so delinquent. It's been fun meeting everyone and seeing their knitting projects! We've had friends, husbands and even newborn babies join in the fun.

This week I worked on some stuffed ducklings made out of Fun Fur (Lion Brand eyelash) along with a friend who helped with attaching felt feet and bills.

We had our first meeting

I'm not really sure what the proper "lingo" is in the knitting circle world - we met, we knitted, we talked, we shared. It was fun!

4 of us showed up - which is a great number, I hope that more can join us in the future, but it's a great start.

Everyone brought a different project to work on - it was interesting to see the different techniques, yarns, needles, etc. that everyone uses.

I knitted a (another) baby bib - add it to the long list of "baby gifts" that I'm working on!

I did bring my camera - but I didn't take any pix - next time!

The folks at Crossroads (especially Amelia) couldn't have been nicer. It's a great place to meet.

I did learn that I need to watch my caffeine intake in the evening - I was up all night (seriously).

Since the "circle" I've started working on a purse made out of Patons Pooch yarn. I don't have a pattern that is specifically tailored to the yarn - so I'm kinda fudging it - I finished the knitting part last night and "basted" it together to get an idea of the form - but I think I'm going to rip it out and start over - as thick as the Pooch is, I think I need to add a second strand (of something; haven't decided yet) of yarn to add more weight/structure. It's going to look very smart once it's all done - I have a busy weekend planned, so hopefully I'll have that to work on at the next "circle".

First Meeting Tonight!

Our first knitting meeting is tonight, at Crossroads Coffee Shop at 7pm. I'm very excited to meet (and re-meet) all the knitters.

I, in my infinite wisdom, finished 2 knitting projects this weekend (the knitting part, any way) - I couldn't stop myself - but I'm sure I can figure something out.

I'll be bringing my camera - so we can post project photos right away.

Knitting circle at Crossroads

Monday evenings at Crossroads Coffee Shop (6156 Ridge Avenue) at 7pm - starting Monday, March 13th.

To start - everyone bring a project that they've "been meaning to finish" (or begin). Perhaps in the future we can do a charity knit or "knit along".
